Cranes and scaffolding are set up Thursday around the Cajun Field stadium and press box as workers make improvements to the exterior of the press box, LEFT, ahead of the start of football season. Bill Crist, director of facilities management for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said the 40-year-old press box was evaluated by a structural engineer who recommended that reinforcement work be done to extend the life of the structure. Crist said exterior structural modifications are being done to make sure it’s safe, and repair work is being done below the concourse where concrete was beginning to fall off. UL-Lafayette plays its first home football game Sept. 1 against Grambling.
